My name is John D. Harrison and it is my pleasure to be included as a new member of the Hypatia Society. I have membership in at least a dozen high IQ societies on the internet and I currently serve as an international membership officer on the executive staff of High IQ For Humanity. I am also a member of the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) and a member of the smartgroup of the National Association For Gifted Children (NAGC). My interests are: piano, classical music, amateur radio, reading, theoretical and conceptual physics, astronomy, philosophy, and psychology. DHarrison cheesy

Hi and welcome smiley

Sounds like you have many interesting interests, what exactly are theoretical and conceptual physics?

Well, theoretical physics is a branch of physics that deals mostly with theory-based principles regarding matter and energy and their interactions in the fields of mechanics, acoustics, optics, heat, electricity, magnetism, radiation, atomic structure, and nuclear phenomena whereas conceptual physics deals primarily with concepts. Conceptualism is also a theory that is intermediate between realism and nominalism that universals exist in the mind as subjects of discourse or as predicates that may be properly affirmed of reality. However, there is a distinct difference between these two branches of physics. My favorite happens to be conceptual physics because it does not require a great deal of mathematical formulas. Instead it focuses on the basic principles and understanding of physics which can lead up to more advanced topics. DHarrison cool

Hi John. I know you from HIQH. What is the smartgroup of NAGC? I am a member of that organization, too but haven't heard of the smartgroup.

Hello! cheesy

I won't bother you here with my bio, as you can find it at photofoxygirl.tripod.com/hypatiasociety/id53.html

Isn't this society a great concept?

Ludwid Weitenstein (not correct spelling) was a contempory philosopher who talked in his works, including the tractartus, that our words define our world

The physics references earlyer reminded me of this work.

He reportedly had an IQ of 190 which was probably the highest IQ of any solder returning from world war one to go and become a school teacher.

He was home schooled till he was 14 and then went to class with one Adulf Hittler and it was from this meeting at school that they both fell in love with the same music composer and fell in hate of each others. Hitler eventually took it out of 6 million co religionest and in responce LW manipulated the war from Cambridge University in England.

LW's father was one of the richest men in eastern europe, the Rockafellow of that part of the world, with steel and rail being his early forture.

Anyway the book "Jew of Linz" out lines the relationship made in the school days.

Lets hope we see a softer side to life in this forum but still have the truth of history to refect upon.

Hi John. My name's Wendall. I've always been intrigued by the concept of IQ. What exactly is a high IQ? What does it signify if one is classified as being in the "high" category? My dad told me once he had my sister and I tested when we were young -- which neither of us remember -- and we both scored at 149. How can any test one takes at the age of an infant measure anything?

I don't know. These are some very good questions that are quite broad in scope and would be excellent topics for all of us to contemplate as far as forum topics is concerned. I find it interesting that both you and your sister would have the same identical score on an IQ asesssment. Thanks for sharing this with the group. Stay tuned! Hi Arista! It's good to see you made it! The smartgroup of the National Association for Gifted Children is an e-mail discussion group and is classified as a SIG. Later on, I'll give you the address. Membership is free. Cheers! DHarrison coolon Aug 16th, 2003, 09:54am, arista wrote:

Hello,

just joined so thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 37, live in the UK. I'm interested in psychology, history of western culture and particularly the ways in which all of us humans are susceptible to mistaking our personal maps for the territory on both a macro and micro scale. Also have a (very amateur) interest in cosmology and the concept of time. And suffer from a dearth of people to discuss these topics with! What else? I'm committed to the (seemingly radical, in the UK at least) cause of treating adults as adults, i.e. as individuals who are capable of making choices for themselves, regardless of how those choices might appear to others, and not as *children* in need of *parents*.

Looking forward to some interesting discussions...
